Ballet for Piano, Op. 8

Ballet for Piano, Op. 8.

I wrote my Ballet for Piano in 2008 and dedicated it to Liliya Gershengoren. This composition is filled with beauty, emotion, and energy. Using a range of specific ballet gestures, I found a way to make the music I wanted also to be dance-able in classical ballet, modern dance, and even other genres like flamenco. The Ballet’s last piece is one of my most favorite of all of my compositions.

The World Premiere was given by the Brockport School of Music and Dance, Brockport, NY. The choreographer was Elliott Keller, who saw this composition in a modern dance form. I was so touched how he sketched the dancers’ moves prior to showing me the concept and the sketches as well. He asked my opinion and really wanted to have his students perform the Ballet in a modern dance style. While I envisioned a Greek Tragedy, with a hint of Romeo and Juliet, danced in the Classical Ballet form, I could not say no to such an enthusiastic and caring display towards my music. Performed by members of the school of dance, I played the piano part with great joy.
